How J-Head™ M3 Stud Thermistors are Made

Here's a closer look at how we make our thermistors and how we ensure that you get a product that you can rely on.

The first step in making an M3 Stud Thermistor a J-Head™ M3 Stud Thermistor is to apply high-temp thermal set cement to the interior cavity of our special M3 Studs. We use a syringe to carefully apply the cement, making sure that it fills the cavity and covers the keyed inside of the stud. This cement provides a secure grip that ensures that the thermistor won't pop out, even under high temperatures.

Once the cement has been applied, we carefully insert a quality NTC 100K 3950 thermistor into the cavity, making sure that the glass bulb is seated all the way in the bottom threaded section of the stud. This placement is key to ensuring that the thermistor provides accurate readings of the internal temperature of your heater block. By having the thermistor seated in the bottom threaded section of the stud, instead of the hexagonal head, we ensure that it is exposed to the same temperatures as the heater block, giving you more accurate readings.

Next, we apply heat to the thermistor for a specific period of time, to set the thermal set cement and lock everything in place. After the thermistor has cooled, we inspect it to make sure that everything is in place and that there are no shorts. Then I perform an ohms test to verify that the thermistor is functioning properly.

Once the thermistor has passed inspection, it's packaged. Only after all of this can we put the "J-Head™ Thermistor Inside" sticker on and add it to our inventory, ready for shipment to you.
